Outreach Ministries

In the spring of 2007, long before our gathering congregation began to hold regular weekly worship services, we discovered a need for Friday night dinner preparation teams at the Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod, Inc. We immediately offered to help and since then have prepared over 10,000 meals for the children. In 2008 the Boys and Girls Club presented us with the "Volunteer of the Year" award. This ministry continues today.
In May of 2008 we began weekly Sunday services and started to gather a choir. During rehearsals at the Meetinghouse some of the spouses of choir members began to knit. Then came the suggestion that we consider a Prayer Shawl Ministry. The idea caught on and since that time the Ministry has presented over 100 prayer shawls to individuals in special need of support and love. Every August all the recipients or the families of recipients are invited to attend a worship service on Sunday morning to celebrate the ministry and the lives of love ones who have died. This Ministry is part of a national effort started by Janet Bristow and Victoria Galo, graduates of the Women's Leadership Institute at the Hartford Seminary in Hartford, CT. www.shawlministry.com
Also in May of 2008, we developed a relationship with the New Horizons United Church of Christ, a sister new church start in Akron, Iowa. Since then their Pastor, Steve Jewett, has attended two of our anniversary dinner celebrations and been our guest preacher. The congregations share gifts with one another from time to time and coordinate a combined communion service (via modern electronics) on World Communion Sunday.
Pastor Scovil and his wife, Diane, have both led morning devotions for Habitat for Habitat homes in Mashpee and occasionally the congregation has provided lunch for the workers. In the fall of 2010 the Human Services Committee for the Town of Mashpee presented Pastor Scovil with its annual "Thanks for Giving" award.
The church in desiring to expand its outreach is currently in conversation with the Cape Cod Council of Churches to explore ways of support A Baby Center.
The church connects with need outside the Mashpee area by contributing faithfully to the following missions of the United Church of Christ:
